Beatles I-Tunes-Only Collection Charts on 7-27-12

“Tomorrow Never Knows,” the digital album the Beatles released through I-Tunes, reached the Top 40 on the Billboard album sales chart on this day in 2012.  This marked the first time that the Beatles had issued an album exclusively through the music download company which had not been previously released.

The album of 14 tracks was put out three days previously and represented many different facets of the band’s storied career, the main focus being an attempt to collect the Beatles most influential songs.  Named after the ground-breaking psychedelic, John Lennon-sung, track from “Revolver,” the release would ultimately reach #24 on the U.S. sales chart.  It was the first time the Beatles had reached the album chart since “Let it Be…Naked” got to #5 in 2003.
