Rhode Island is now a "Fribble Free Zone." The last Friendly's restaurant in the state has closed, and taken part of our childhood with it. When Friendly's was in it's heyday, there were more than 700 locations around New England. After filing bankruptcy in 2012 there were 254, but more stores keep closing.
There was a sign on the door of the final Friendly's in RI on Mineral Spring Avenue in North Providence today. It said, “We apologize for disappointing you on this visit, but this location is now closed for business." Now what do you do? Go to Newport Creamery?
If you want to build your own sundae, enjoy a Candy Blast Monster Shake, or dig into a Fishamajig Supermelt, you're going to have to cross state lines and visit the one in Attleboro...while you can.
