The late, great Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell will be honored at the upcoming 60th Annual Grammy Awards with a posthumous nomination for Best Rock Performance.Up for consideration? The grunge icon's final solo release, "The Promise." Written and recorded for the historical drama of the same name, Cornell was moved to contribute the soaring arrangement to the project when he learned the film would depict the horrors of the Armenian Genocide.

While Cornell himself is not Armenian, his Greek wife's family was deeply affected by the early 20th-century atrocities.

The 60th Annual Grammy Awards will be held at New York's Madison Square Garden on January 28 at 7:30PM ET. The program will air on CBS.
