Parents Voicing Concerns About New Boston School Start Times

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Dozens of parents of elementary school students plan to attend a School Committee meeting Wednesday night to voice their concerns about new school start times.

It's not just the start times that have these parents concerned--it's the earlier dismissal times, coupled with a lack of after-school programs and childcare issues.

Parents say their own schedules are not flexible enough to accommodate the new school hours.

The changes are meant to address studies that say high school students do better when their sleep patterns better match their body clocks.

While high school students start later, about three dozen elementary and K-8 schools will be starting at 7:30 a.m. or earlier next year.
