BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- It's a new era for the South Boston St. Patrick's Day Parade.

After years of trying to prevent gay groups from marching in the parade, The South Boston Allied War Veterans Council has appointed Bryan Bishop as the Director of Parade Operations. Bishop is the founder and CEO of OutVets.

'All the stuff we dealt with; in 2016 we were put in the back of the parade, in 2017 they tried to kick us out, then put us back in, but I think.. finally, there's a bridge of non-discrimination, a bridge of community,' says Bryan Bishop.

Veterans Council Commander, Dave Falvey, tells WBZ NewsRadio1030 that Bishop is simply the best person for the job.

" A wave of veterans in South Boston you know kinda recognized it was not a good look for the community and we certainly didn't think it was right and we made changes and it was very clear quickly,  that Bryan was ... not only was he the best person for the position but certainly he was willing to serve in that role. And it's not his job. The fact that he's the CEO and founder of OutVets I think is also a great to this story," Falvey said.
