BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Ryan Brasier made his major league debut with the Angels in 2013 and posted good numbers with a flat 2 ERA in seven relief appearances. Then, he endured a long climb back to the bigs, including a stint in Japan last year.

But, after a blistering start in Pawtucket this season with a 1.34 ERA over 34 outings, Brasier's been even better since his promotion to Boston.

The Texas native's pitched in 15 games for the Red Sox, with a 1.13 ERA and 15 strikeouts over 16 frames. That includes a huge strikeout of Trey Mancini with the bases loaded and two outs in yesterday's win in Baltimore.

Chris Sale said Brasier's an important part of the bullpen.

"Not only today, but just what he's been all year, it's hard to think he was in Japan last year, basically in their minor-league system," Sale said. "He's got an incredible arm, incredible stuff. Kudos to our scouting department, and not only that, but A.C. [Manager Alex Cora]. He saw him in spring training, used him in spring and saw what he had to offer, and here he is now. Big key to our bullpen."

Sox are off tonight. They'll start a two-game set in Philadelphia tomorrow.
