BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Kyrie Irving spent months ducking questions about his free agent future in 2019. The guard was borderline frustrated during his Uncle Drew movie press tour in June.

"My hope is that maybe we could limit it to maybe one question a day about what I'm doing next year?" Irving told reporters during that tour.

But, something's changed the last few days. The Celtics All-Star told ESPN Friday he's excited about what the C's are capable of "the next few years."

And, yesterday, he told everyone at Media Day how pumped he is for a future in Boston. He even shared with the team's website he's thought about his number getting retired.

"This franchise is really built for the next two years of being at the top tier of teams in the league, and who wouldn't want to be a part of that?" Irving said. "What more could you ask for from an organization to really elevate your game? When you want to be along those same lines, the lineage of great guys that've come before you--I mean, there are times when I think about having number 11 in the rafters one day, and I mean, that's the dream, so why not? It wasn't so much coming out, but it's the truth. I feel that way about my teammates, I feel that way about this organization, so, I'm looking forward to the challenge this year."

Irving said he understands the speculation, but he's comfortable, focused, and believes Boston's the place for him. He's eager to help build a championship culture.
