BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Wednesday, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced 1,118 new cases of coronavirus in the state, and 33 more deaths.
That brings the state's total number of coronavirus cases to 7,738, and the state's total number of COVID-related deaths to 122.
The deaths announced on Wednesday include the state's youngest so far; a man in his 30's in Suffolk County. According to the DPH release, he had pre-existing conditions and was hospitalized for coronavirus.
The highest number of cases are in Suffolk County, which has 1,624 cases, followed by Middlesex County with 1,582 cases, Essex County with 885 cases, and 829 Norfolk County with cases.
While the vast majority of COVID-related deaths in Massachusetts are people over the age of 60, people under the age of 60 account for nearly three-fourths of the coronavirus cases in the state.
More than 51,738 Massachusetts residents have now been tested for the virus. A total of 628 patients have been hospitalized with the virus across the Commonwealth, and 2,340 patients were not hospitalized. The source of transmission in 4,716 cases is still under investigation.
