Music icon Paul McCartney is stepping into one of the most intimate chapters of his storied career with the release of The Boys of Dungeon Lane, his first new solo album in more than five years. The project marks his 18th solo studio album and offers a rare, deeply personal look at the memories and moments that shaped not only his life, but the foundations of modern pop music.

Known for decades of iconic songwriting, McCartney turns the focus inward on The Boys of Dungeon Lane, revisiting his childhood in post-war Liverpool with a level of honesty and vulnerability that sets this release apart. The album captures his early years before global fame — long before the rise of The Beatles — as he reflects on family life, youthful ambition, and formative friendships with John Lennon and George Harrison.

At the heart of the album is its standout track, "Days We Left Behind," a stripped-back and emotional centerpiece that inspired the album’s title. The song paints vivid images of McCartney’s upbringing, from working-class life in Liverpool to quiet moments spent dreaming of a future that had yet to unfold.

In a statement, McCartney shared of the song, "This is very much a memory song for me. The album title, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, comes from a lyric in this track. I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind and I do often wonder if I’m just writing about the past but then I think how can you write about anything else? It’s just a lot of memories of Liverpool. It involves a bit in the middle about John and Forthlin Road which is the street I used to live in. Dungeon Lane is near there. I used to live in a place called Speke which is quite working class. We didn’t have much at all but it didn’t matter because all the people were great and you didn’t notice you didn’t have much."

While the album, which is set to be released on May 29th, leans heavily into nostalgia and introspection, it also features a collection of new love songs that showcase McCartney’s timeless melodic instincts. Blending elements of his past — from the harmony-driven sounds reminiscent of The Beatles to the rock energy of his Wings era — The Boys of Dungeon Lane highlights the musical versatility that has defined his career for over six decades.
