BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — About a third of the tested population of 397 people at Pine Street Inn came back COVID-19 positive, despite not having any symptoms of the virus.
Dr. Jim O'Connell, President of Boston Healthcare for the Homeless, said no one expected this kind of asymptomatic spread.
"We worry about what is happening in shelters all across the country, where no one is being tested unless you have a symptom," O'Connell said. "We have a major problem in how to control and contain the virus."
O'Connell said universal testing is the best option, as homeless people are less able to wash their hands regularly and practice social distancing.
