Bill Belichick, Julian Edelman Wish Bruins Well In Stanley Cup Final

BOSTON ( WBZ NewsRadio) —The New England Patriots began off-season workouts Thursday, but hockey was on the mind for the defending Super Bowl champions.

Wide receiver Julian Edelman and head coach Bill Belichick had encouraging words and warm wishes for the Boston Bruins en route to the Stanley Cup Final.

"Obviously want to wish the Bruins well in their Stanley Cup Final," Belichik told reporters. "Proud of what they're doing, and wish them the very best in this next series. They played great. This will be a great opportunity for them and we'll be here cheering them on."

Edelman, fresh off a Super Bowl MVP award and contract extension, diverted the attention away from himself. "Right now it's the Bruins turn. It's exciting to see a young team, a new team, go out there with some of the older guys that have been around and compete at the highest levels," he said. "So I'm excited for them, and I'll be at the games."

With a thrilling win in 2011 and a loss two years later, this marks the third trip to the Stanley Cup Final in nearly a decade for the Bruins.

The St. Louis Blues will compete for their first title since 1970, when Bruins legend Bobby Orr soured their note with his infamous airborne celebration.
