Boston Celebrates Couples Who've Spent Half A Century Together

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The city's Age Strong Commission gathered couples who have been together 50 years or more for a special luncheon at the Four Seasons Hotel this week, and WBZ NewsRadio's Carl Stevens stopped by to find out the secret to a long and happy marriage.

Couples like Thelma and Edward Burns, who have been married 65 years, were happy to share advice.

"You gotta go through the thick and the thin," Edward said. "Sometimes it's thick and sometimes it's thin, so you just gotta hang in there!"

When asked the secret to staying together so long, Thelma was a bit more blunt.

"You just gotta put up with it," she said.

Another woman, married 54 years, said the secret to her marriage was, "He travels a lot."

Her advice for kids today who "don't seem to want to make a go of it when things aren't good" is just to stick with it.

Hear from some of the couples below.
