Brockton Police Cruiser Strikes Pedestrain

BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Plymouth County District Attorney’s office says a man has died after being struck by an unmarked Brockton police cruiser Friday night.

The victim has been identified as 61-year-old Antonio Tavares, of Boston.

An officer was responding to a call around 8:20 p.m. when the cruiser struck the pedestrian on Main Street.

According to officials, the "officer made attempts to stop and avoid the collision and immediately administered aid to the victim."

Tavares was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities are currently investigating.
