BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Butterball is recalling more than 78,000 pounds of raw, ground turkey because it may be contaminated with a strand of salmonella.

The recall applies to 16- and 48-oz plastic wrapped turkey produced last July, with a "sell or freeze by" date of July 26, 2018.

Officials are concerned some of the turkey could still be in customers' freezers.

Some of the packages were branded as Kroger or Food Lion turkey.

The recall stems from an investigation into a Salmonella Schwarzengrund outbreak involving five people in two states.
