LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Lynn bakery has closed its doors due to bankruptcy, leaving employees stunned and out of work.

Staff at D'Amici's received a text at 4 a.m. Monday morning from owner Sandrine Coyer saying the Bakery's three stores in Lynn, Melrose, and Reading were all closed due to economic difficulties, and that staff had been let go.

According to the Lynn Daily Item, the text began, “I have bad news. I am sorry and sad to tell you that the business is done. Because of economic difficulties, we had to file for bankruptcy.”

The text also said the locks to the stores were changed, and that staff weren't allowed on the premises to collect their belongings.

In a post on the bakery's Facebook page, Coyer said she and her husband tried to keep the business open "until the last day, but we met a dead end."

"For two years now, my husband and I poured everything we had in that business," she wrote. "It was our dream and we worked everyday as hard as we could to make it work. Sadly, this business and the struggles it was having became so overwhelming that we could barely survive anymore. As soon as we took over the business, we discovered things had been hidden from us. These issues condemned us as soon as we took over."

The closure comes less than a year after Coyer and her husband closed the bakery's downtown location on Sutton Street.

"We are truly sorry for everyone this is impacting and there are no words that could possibly make anyone feel better," Coyer wrote. "Thank you for everyone, customers and staff, that made this journey bearable for us and we will never forget that. We’re sorry for letting you down."

Two businesses have said they want to help with providing jobs for D'Amici's employees.
