Fatal Crash In Cambridge Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Seriously Injured

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A single-vehicle car crash near Harvard Yard has left one man dead and another seriously injured.

The crash occurred around 4 a.m. Thursday morning when the driver of the vehicle smashed through a fence and into a tree near 1270 Massachusetts Ave.

Cambridge, Harvard, and Massachusetts State Police officers responded to the scene.

The driver was later pronounced dead at an area hospital, while the passenger suffered serious injuries; neither of their names have been released, though officials say they were two men in their 20s and 30s.

As a result of the crash, Massachusetts Avenue was temporarily closed at Bow Street into Harvard Square. The area has since reopened.

An investigation is underway as to what caused the crash.
