BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — An upcoming film on the 1960's Boston serial killer, the "Boston Strangler," is looking for extras. The film, which stars Kiera Knightley (best known from her role in the Pirates of the Caribbean series) as Loretta McLaughlin, an enterprising reporter that worked with her fellow journalist Jean Cole to piece together the truth about a string of murders in the 1960's.
The movie is being directed by Matt Ruskin, who also directed "Crown Heights."
The "Boston Strangler" killed thirteen women between 1962 and 1964, between the ages of 19 and 85. Albert DeSalvo confessed to being the killer in 1967, but some doubted his claims, according to the AP. Jodi Purdy-Quinlan is one of the background casting directors on set, and said the film is looking for white, clean shaven men to be extras.
"You have the excitement of going to set, getting dressed head to toe, hair and makeup, it's really cool," she said. Purdy-Quinlan said the film was ideally looking for men above the age of 30. The movie is set against the backdrop of the two female reporters challenging the male-dominated professional world of the 1960's. The extra roles available include police officers, lawyers, criminals, and bartenders.
She's also looking for anyone who owns a classic car from the 50's and 60's to park their cars on set.
