NORTH ANDOVER (WBZ NewsRadio) — Bruin alum Ray Bourque has apologized for crossing the picket line and shopping at Stop & Shop as employees enter day six of a strike.
In a video posted by Christine Fontánez on Facebook, showing the Bruins legend leaving the Stop & Shop store in North Andover and placing groceries in his vehicle on Monday.
As he exits the store you can hear a woman berating him.
Bourque later took to Twitter to apologize.
"Being a union hockey player for 22 years I respect Unions and the work that they do. I have a medical condition that I was preparing for this morning and mistakenly crossed the picket line at Stop & Shop. On my way out I apologized immediately," said Bourque. "I support the employees of Stop & Shop and once my medical condition is resolved I plan on returning to stand in solidarity and will walk the pick up line alongside the members of the union."
Now in a sixth day 31,000 employees in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island are off the job citing company plans to cut pay and benefits.
While the contract expired on February 23 Stop & Shop says it’s offering a fair deal.
