Funeral Held Thursday For Fallen Worcester PD Officer Manny Familia

WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A funeral was held Thursday morning for fallen Worcester Police Officer Manny Familia. He died last week while trying to save the life of a drowning teenage boy.

The 14-year-old boy, identified as Troy Love, also drowned during the incident at Green Hill Pond.

The funeral was held at St. John's Church. Thousands, including police officers from across the area, lined the streets for a procession preceding the funeral.

Worcester County Sheriff's Office Superintendent David Tuttle said Familia "gave his life in service of others, and in our eyes, that is a hero."

Familia leaves behind a wife, a 17-year-old daughter, and a 13-year-old son.
