BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – Massachusetts residents are being urged to stay home as a possibly historic Nor’easter is set to slide through the area.

“This is going to be a very big storm. Probably one of the biggest we’ve experienced in the last few years.”

Governor Charlie Baker took no time getting to the point when he addressed the state’s response to the upcoming storm Friday. He said it will bring an incredible amount of snowfall by midmorning Saturday as well as extremely dangerous travel conditions.

The National Weather Service expects snowfall in between two and four inches per hour between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. This will make it extremely difficult for crews to plow the roads.

“Two to four inches an hour is basically whiteout conditions,” the Governor said. “We would especially urge anyone who doesn’t have a really good reason to be out, not to be out and on the roads during that period of time.”

In response to the forecast, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation has implemented a travel ban on the state's interstate highways. The ban will be in place between 6:00 a.m. and midnight Saturday.

The storm is expected to move into the area starting Friday night and impact the state throughout Saturday and Saturday night. The entire state is expected to see snow with blizzard conditions expected in most coastal areas.
