Harvard Students Elected After Campaign Rap Video Goes Viral

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two students were elected as president and vice president of Harvard's Undergraduate Council after their campaign rap video went viral.

Running mates James Mathew and Ifeoma "Ify" White-Thorpe, who are both juniors, released the video on Monday before winning the election Thursday night, according to the Boston Globe.

The two ran under the campaign slogan of "Harvard Can't Wait," and advocated for issues such as "multidimensional inclusion and belonging," according to their campaign website.

They said that they not only aim to fight for cultural and racial inclusion, but also for first-generation low-income, "LGBTQ+, and undocumented students."

Other goals for the pair included creating "proactive and innovative solutions" and fostering a "community-oriented student experience."
