HUDSON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The man who fatally shot his girlfriend near an elementary school Thursday has been charged with murder.

Luis Santos, 23, had been dating Karla Rodriguez, 20, for about three months. The day of the shooting they had gotten into an argument, then Santos allegedly shot at Rodriguez multiple times as she sat in her car.

The incident occurred near Camela A. Farley Elementary School, prompting the school to go under lock down.

Rodriguez was shot around 2 p.m. and flown to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. She was pronounced dead Friday morning.

Santos initially fled the scene on foot, then later turned himself in to the police Friday night.

He has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, unlawful possession of a firearm and armed assault with intent to murder.

Rodriguez is survived by her young child. Santos is expected in Marlborough District Court Monday for his arraignment.
