Local Shop Owner Struggles To Find Employees

WINCHESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A local business owner is having such a hard time finding good employees that he’s forced to temporarily close up shop in Winchester.

Three weeks ago Ehab Sadeek, owner of Bagel Land on Main Street tells WBZ NewsRadio that is started his operating hours to weekend only because he would not staff it.

“I think it is a downside to a very strong economy,” he said.

Sadeek, who also runs Big Sky Bread Café in Woburn, cites the low unemployment rate and that many people are working their own hours driving for ride share services such as Uber and Lyft.

“If I am averaging you know somewhere between $25 to $30 dollars an hour driving at my own leisure, why would I do something else.”

He said that because of this, it has made it impossible to virtually find anyone to work the store.

He plans on reopening the store but not until when school lets out for the summer and is able to hire high school students.
