Man Suspected Of Vandalizing Dorchester Vietnam Memorial Identified

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police have identified a suspect in the vandalization of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Dorchester on Thursday.

Authorities interviewed a 33-year-old Dorchester resident Saturday morning after he was taken into police custody. The man was then sent to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.

According to officials, the man will eventually be charged with offenses of malicious destruction of property over $250 and tagging.

At the memorial, shrubs and flowers were destroyed, stone posts were tagged with swastikas and other graffiti, and America flags were removed. The site has since been restored.

Officials said that there was previously a warrant out for the suspect related to the theft of flags from the UMass Campus.
