PELHAM, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A man and a woman from Massachusetts are facing charges after they were allegedly caught trespassing in New Hampshire and were held at gunpoint by residents until police arrived.
Pelham Police Officers responded to a home on Plower Road at around 9:30 p.m Wednesday for a report of a vehicle theft in progress.
The caller said he had been driving by his father’s house when he noticed a cab light on in a parked dump truck, and saw a man and a woman by the truck. He told authorities he then called his father, the property owner, and a friend, who came to help.
The caller said they began approaching the suspects to confront them about trespassing, but the man and woman reportedly got in their Honda Civic and attempted to leave.
The female suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Carolyn Eaton of Cambridge, Mass., then allegedly reversed the Honda in an attempt to flee, almost striking the property owner. The caller said they were able to block the Honda in, although he said Eaton struck their van as she tried to break free.
Officers arrived a short time later and saw the suspects' Honda Civic boxed in by residents’ vehicles in the driveway. Police said the residents were armed but were not pointing a firearm at the suspects.
"Officers set a perimeter and called the female driver and male passenger out of the car," Pelham Police Department said. "Neither suspect... complied with officers’ repeated commands."
Officers said Eaton and the male suspect, later identified as 28-year-old David Abichaker of Roslindale, Mass., "ignored officers’ commands for hours."
At one point, PPD said Eaton exited the vehicle, walked around the car, and got back in the passenger side as Abichaker jumped into the driver’s seat.
"Officers continued to give verbal commands to the non-compliant suspects until approximately 11:10 p.m. when Abichaker exited the car," PPD said in a statement. "He initially complied as officers attempted to take him into custody, but then moved quickly toward a Trooper when he was close to the officers. The Trooper deployed his Taser, as a result and Abichaker was arrested without further incident. Eaton then exited the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident."
PPD said Abichaker was not injured by the Taser and was cleared by the Pelham Fire Department.
Eaton was charged with Reckless Conduct with a Deadly Weapon, Criminal Trespass, Criminal Mischief, and Resisting Arrest. She was released on personal recognizance bail and will be arraigned at Hillsborough Superior Court on January 19th.
Abichaker was charged with Criminal Trespassing and Resisting Arrest. He was released and will be arraigned at Salem District Court on February 8th.
