Patriots' CB Stephon Gilmore Tests Positive For COVID-19

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — New England Patriots' star cornerback Stephon Gilmore has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the team to cancel Wednesday's practice.

"What's going to happen with the NFL over the next two days, I think that's going to be important," longtime sports writer Bill Burt with the Eagle Tribune told WBZ NewsRadio.

The NFL now has a watchful eye on the Pats, after both Gilmore and quarterback Cam Newton tested positive for the virus.

Gilmore is the reigning NFL defensive player of the year, and he played every defensive snap on Monday night in Kansas City. While it may be too early to talk about the NFL cancel seasons, Burt said there are safety measure they can take.

"What the NFL can do [is] they can extend the season," Burt said. "They have already talked about going maybe an extra week."
