PELHAM, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A gunman opened fire Saturday during a wedding at the New England Pentecostal Church in Pelham, wounding the bride and a bishop.
The suspected gunman, identified as 37-year-old Dale Holloway, was arrested for allegedly shooting 75-year-old Bishop Stanley Choate.
Choate was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. Multiple other people, including the bride, were also injured during the shooting.
The 60-year-old groom was struck in the head with an object.
Holloway was then tackled and subdued by others in the church.
"From my understanding, they basically gang-tackled him. There was a struggle [that] ensued. Minor injuries occurred to the other guests who were in the struggle with the shooter," Police Chief Joseph Roark said. "...I do know that our agency provided active shooter training to that church within the last year."
Now, investigators are trying to unravel a complicated web of faith, family, and violence.
Holloway, the suspected gunman, was listed in an obituary as the step-son of a deacon at the church, Louis Garcia who was killed two weeks ago. The groom at the wedding is also the father of the young man accused of killing Garcia.
A funeral for Garcia was supposed to take place at the church following the wedding.
Holloway is now facing multiple charges including attempted murder and assault. He is set to be arraigned on Tuesday.
Sunday service at the church was cancelled. The day care center next door to the church was also closed on Sunday.
Authorities have yet to identify a motive.
