Recovering Pony To Appear In St. Patrick's Day Parade

HARWICH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Harwich pony attacked with a pitchfork last month has recovered enough to appear Saturday in the Cape Cod St. Patrick's Day Parade.

There still hasn't been an arrest in the brutal attack on Scottie the Welsh pony that attracted tremendous public sympathy. On February 8th or 9th, someone broke into Scottie's stable at CB Equestrian in Harwich, tied him to a fence, and brutally stabbed him in the stomach with a pitchfork.

Scottie has been hospitalized while being treated, and while his recovery continues, his owner Susan Buchanan says he's recovered enough to walk in this weekend's parade. Buchanan says Scottie fortunately has kept his friendly demeanor.

"All he wants to do is cuddle," she says.

Harwich police say the case is under investigation, and while they are pursuing several leads, anyone with information is asked to call police. A Go Fund Me Page to help with Scottie's medical expenses has so far raised more than $40,000.
