BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles is closing up shop from Friday night until Tuesday morning so the agency can finish upgrading its new web-based ATLAS system.

You won't be able to get your car inspected or do any online RMV business over the long holiday weekend as the technology is updated, RMV Acting Registrar Jamey Tesler told WBZ NewsRadio's Kim Tunnicliffe.

"This final installment is for all our vehicle-based services—that's your registrations, titles, all the interactions we have with the dealerships and insurance companies," Tesler said. "This will enable us to be on a modern platform with technology, and that will improve the ability of all of our transactions with all of our business partners."

The registry will be back up and running Tuesday morning, hopefully with the new tech platform in place.
