BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston is home to the nation's second most expensive ZIP code in the entire country, according to a new study from PropertyShark.

The ZIP code, 02199, encompasses the Prudential Center area of the Back Bay. The median home sale price in this area was $5.5 million in 2021, which is up nearly $3.7 million in 2019. This ZIP code did not make the list in 2020 due to lower sales.

The only ZIP code in the country with a higher median home sale price was 94027 in Atherton, California, where the median sales price was nearly $7.5 million. This is the fifth consecutive year Atherton topped PropertySharks rankings.

There were six other Massachusetts ZIP codes that made the list—02554 in Nantucket was 58th, 02493 in Weston was 74th, 02481 in Wellesley was 86th, 02468 in Newton was 89th, 02108 in Beacon Hill and downtown Boston was 91st, and 02535 on Martha's Vineyard was 93rd.

New England had four more ZIP codes in the top 100, all of which were in Connecticut. California had the most on the list, including six of the top 10.

PropertyShark conducted the study by looking at residential sales closed between Jan. 1 and Oct. 22. They sampled sales on condos, co-ops, and single and two-family homes, excluding package deals.
