BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The 129th Boston Marathon has its champion in the Women’s Wheelchair Division.
Susannah Scaroni is a Boston Marathon champion once again, after crossing the finish line on Boylston Street in 1:35:20. Swiss athletes rounded out the podium, with Catherine Debrunner finishing in second in 1:37:26 and Manuela Schär finishing third in 1:39:18.
While it is not technically a back-to-back win for Scaroni, she won the Women’s Wheelchair Division the last time she raced in 2023. An injury kept her from being able to compete in 2024. Prior to winning, she placed in the Boston Marathon in 2014, 2015 and 2017.
Originally from Tekoa, Wash., Scaroni has represented the United States at the Paralympic Games in 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024. She took home a gold medal in the women’s 5,000 meters T54 event in the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
