Sen. Warren Endorses Michelle Wu For Boston Mayor

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren officially endorsed Boston City Councilor Michelle Wu to be the next Mayor of Boston.

In an announcement made Saturday, Sen. Warren said she "knew there was something special" about Wu when she first met her as a student in one of Warren's Harvard Law School classes.

"What I learned over time is that she is not just a woman full of good ideas and a passionate heart, she is a woman who gets out and does the work that needs to be done to make a difference in people's lives," Warren said.

City Councilor-at-large Michelle Wu announced her candidacy for Mayor of Boston in September 2020, alongside fellow City Councilor Andrea Campbell.

Warren's endorsement of Wu comes one day after President-elect Joe Biden officially nominated Boston's current mayor, Marty Walsh, to be his Secretary of Labor.

Wu responded on social media to her former professor's endorsement, saying she was "honored to earn the support of our Senator & champion for working families."

"I’m thrilled to get on board the Wu Train and endorse her run for Mayor of Boston," Warren tweeted Saturday morning.

"Over the past 7 years, Michelle has carried her life experiences to City Hall as a tireless advocate for women, working families, and communities who feel unseen and unheard," Warren said. "As our country and our Commonwealth face tough challenges ... Bostonians can count on Michelle’s bold, progressive leadership to tackle our biggest challenges, such as recovering from the pandemic, dismantling systemic racism, prioritizing housing justice, revitalizing our transportation infrastructure, and addressing the climate crisis."
