BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The westbound side of the Ted Williams Tunnel shuttered in the middle of the morning commute on Thursday.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation told WBZ NewsRadio the west-bound I-90 shutdown was because of an organ transplant.
MassDOT officials said the shutdown only lasted five minutes, but it came at the worst possible time: 8:15 a.m.
The closure happened in the midst of the Sumner Tunnel shutdown, which is set to last through August 31. That meant two of the most-traveled routes in and out of downtown Boston were closed for a short time Thursday.
