BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – As the remnants of Tropical Storm Fred make its way toward the northeast, heavy rain and possible flooding can be expected in parts of New England.

Fred, now labelled as a post-tropical cyclone, is currently moving into the northeastern part of the country and will make its way across New England on Thursday. It will linger in the area before shifting offshore by Friday.

The National Weather Service said severe thunderstorms and flash flooding are possible as a strong cold front is moving through the north-central part of the country.

Tropical moisture with Fred will continue to cause heavy rain along its track and a Slight Risk of excessive rainfall and Flash Flood Watches are in effect throughout the day and into the night on Thursday.

There is also the potential for damaging winds. Temperatures will be in the 80s and high humidity can be expected Thursday evening and into Friday.
