CHARLESTOWN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — With the pandemic still going on, the USS Constitution cannot carry on its usual Fourth of July festivities.
According to Elliot Fabrizio, the Chief Petty Officer on Old Ironsides, there are usually about five-thousand visitors every weekend throughout the summer.
Shortly after closing due to coronavirus, the USS Constitution went online with virtual tours.
"Our virtual tours have gotten us over two million visitors," Fabrizio said. Now, they're taking that enthusiasm online into their Fourth of July ceremonies.
"We'll be firing a 21-gun salute, we're going to be climbing the loft, we're doing gun drills, we're doing the pipe drills," Fabrizio said. There will also be a public trivia contest, and those with correct responses will win the 21 rounds.
