Armed Suspect Wanted By Waltham Police Surrenders

WALTHAM (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Boston man who was wanted by Police in Waltham has turned him in without incident they say.

Police said Darren Dyette was wanted in an alleged domestic assault Monday at an extended-stay hotel on Fourth Avenue. During that assault, he allegedly made reference to a handgun, though no gun was seen.

Residents got a recorded phone message shortly before 9 a.m. letting them know that police were searching for Dyette in the area of Main Street and the Weston town line.

"Please lock your doors and call 911 for any suspicious activity," the recording said.

Schools were also under a shelter in place order.

By the time officers arrived at that hotel, Dyette had fled. About a half hour later, he was spotted in the Bear Hill Road neighborhood, and police chased him on foot, but lost him.

He turned himself in to Waltham Police and was charged with several charges including: Two counts of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (shod foot and wit ground,) strangulation or suffocation, witness intimidation , threat to commit a crime to wit murder, Assault and Battery Household member. Police say Dyette was also wanted by Boston Police for "malicious destruction of a motor vehicle."

Police say that Dyette will be taken to Waltham District Court post booking.
