Police: Woman Killed In Somerville Hit-And-Run

SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police say that a woman was killed following a hit-and-run in Somerville Saturday night.

The victim, 52-year-old Cheryl Paul Richards, of Somerville, was struck around 8 p.m. on Mystic Avenue near a Stop and Shop.

An investigation by police indicated that the woman had been crossing the street, using a crosswalk, at the time of the incident. She as taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

State Police say driver in the hit-and-run has been identified as 64-year-old Zewdu Abate Gedamu. He is facing charges of leaving the scene of a crash causing personal injury or death, and is being held on a $1,000 cash bail

Gedamu turned himself in to authorities on Sunday.
