Green Day On Mars!

Via Billboard: Ladies and gentlemen, Green Day are floating in space.

Rather, Green Day floated in space and now they are chilling on the surface of Mars. The band revealed on Monday (Nov. 26) that a microchip etched with the phrase "Green Day Since 1986" was included in NASA's InSight Mars Lander, which touched down on the red planet's Elysium Planitia earlier that day. The phrase is a reference to the year the legendary punk trio was formed by then teenage pals singer Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist Mike Dirnt (then known as Sweet Children.)

"Officially landed on Mars," the group announced on their Twitter feed. "Out of this world."

At press time, spokespeople for NASA and the band could not be reached for additional comment about how the chip ended up on the lander.
