Aerosmith Named MusiCares' Person Of The Year For 2020

Via Ultimate Classic Rock: Aerosmith have been named MusiCares' Person of the Year for 2020, and the organization's annual benefit concert will feature a performance by the honored act, as well as appearances by Alice Cooper, Foo Fighters, and others. The award is given out every year to a musical act with a lengthy history of both musical excellence and philanthropy. A press release singles out Janie's Fund, an organization founded by Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler that supports girls who have been subject to physical and sexual abuse and neglect. The charity is named after the band's 1989 hit "Janie's Got a Gun."

The MusiCares ceremony and concert will take place on Jan. 24 at the Los Angeles Convention Center's West Hall. Also appearing on the bill are Gary Clark Jr., John Mayer, John Legend, Jonas Brothers, H.E.R., Emily King, and Yola.

Proceeds from the event will benefit MusiCares, which offers financial and medical assistance to those in the music industry. The organization offers basic living assistance, substance-abuse counseling and educational workshops. In the 30 years since its founding, MusiCares has given out more than $66 million to those in need.

Previous winners of the MusiCares Person of the Year award have included Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Sting, Fleetwood Mac, Dolly Parton, Stevie Wonder, and Elton John.

Two nights after the MusiCares event, Tyler will host his own benefit for Janie's Fund, the third-annual Grammy Viewing Party in Hollywood.
