Spinal Tap Released 35 Years Ago Today

This Is Spinal Tap, director Rob Reiner’s 1984 comedy documentary about the loudest band in the world, turns 35 today. The story of the tension, drama, and prima donna demands of a rock band was hailed by actual rock stars to be pretty accurate. It was so succesful, that Spinal Tap's Nigel Tufnell (Christopher Guest) David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean) and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) went on tour! Nigel’s custom made amp inspired The Oxford English Dictionary to define the term “up to eleven" officially as "to reach or surpass the maximum level or limit." Spinal Tap was even selected for preservation in the Library of Congress historic film registry in 2003. Probably because, ”there is a fine line between stupid and clever.”

In honor of the anniversary, Spinal Tap is reuniting at The Tribeca Film Festival in New York for a screening, question and answer period, and a performance. Smell The Glove!
