What is an Olympic Gold Medal really Worth?

To answer this question many have often wondered about, I turned to the experts on the subject of values. According to Money magazine, the actual Gold Medals awarded at the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang  are worth about $577 USD.  Meaning, if you were to boil down the gold-plating (they're not solid gold) it would amount to 1% pure gold. That’s about 6 grams.  By comparison, Silver medals, which are solid, would get you about $320, while a bronze medal (forged from copper alloy), is worth only $3.50.  Aside from from the glory, honor and prestige, it's reassuring to know that many of the competing Nations also offer additional cash payouts to its 1st, 2nd and 3rd-place recipients. So, strap on those planks and let's hit the slopes!
