Via COS, Twenty + years after Johnny Cash covered Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage", Chris Cornell put his own spin on an unfinished piece by the former Country Legend. The aptly-titled "You Never Knew My Mind" will be featured on the upcoming album Johnny Cash: Forever Words,’ out April 6 on Legacy Recordings. The album is made up of Cash’s unknown poetry, lyrics, and letters, now set to music by an all-star cast which also includes Rosanne Cash, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Kris Kristofferson & Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Elvis Costello and more.
The contribution of the late Cornell is said to be one of his final, solo recordings before his death in May of 2017. It was cut at The Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Here's a sneak preview of the track as told by the man himself:
