It was a day much like today. Friday the 13th, 2012, Tom Petty and his Heartbreakers were rehearsing for a tour on a soundstage in Culver City, California. They arrived to find five vintage guitars had been stolen from the room. The list included a 1967 blonde Rickenbacker, a 1967 Epiphone Sheridan, a 1965 Gibson SG TV Jr., a Fender Broadcaster and a Dusenberg Mike Campbell Model, which belonged to Campbell himself. Ouch! Petty offered a "no questions asked" reward of $7,500 to anyone with information leading to the guitars' recovery. Well, ask and you shall receive....
ROLLING STONE had the "Unsolved Mysteries"-like UPDATE just five days later. It turned out a Security guard, Daryl Washington was caught after police received a tip that one of the stolen guitars was pawned for $250 in Hollywood.
The now, late, Hall-of-Famer released a statement after the incident saying: "I am extremely grateful to the Culver City Police Department for a job well done, and touched by the outpouring of good wishes and concern from our fans and friends."
