4/16/74: Queen Play First U.S. Concert

From UCR  Freddie Mercury and Co. had achieved some success and notoriety for their high energy shows in their native U.K. and Europe, but despite having two albums released they were largely unknown here in the 'States. That all changed 44 years ago today when they opened the eyes and ears of the crowd at Regis College (a conservative Jesuit institution), in Denver. Queen served as the opening act for Mott The Hoople. Thanks to Freddie's ownership of the stage and the band's virtuosity on their instruments they won that crowd over and even got applauded back on stage for multiple encores, which the band used to rock some vintage covers -"Jailhouse Rock," "Shake, Rattle & Roll" and more. Below is some great footage from a 1974 show at London's legendary Rainbow
