via rollingstone In 1990, a then-21 year old Punk Drummer named Dave Grohl was left without a band. His Washington D.C. outfit Scream had just broken up. Meanwhile Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic's Nirvana had gone through a debut album and a few drummers of their own. They had just put out an ad looking to fill the void when their buddy Buzz Osborne of The Melvins recommended Grohl after they had seen him play with Scream in San Francisco just a month earlier.
A few days after arriving in Seattle, Novoselic and Cobain auditioned Grohl. Novoselic said later: "We knew in two minutes that he was the right drummer." Things came together quickly for what is now the classic line up of the band. On October 11th of '90, NIrvana played their first gig with their new drummer.
