via UPROXX After financial disputes back in 2015, work has resumed on a replica of the Titanic. Titanic 2 is the product of Blue Star Lines and Australian Mining Tycoon and Billionaire, Clive Palmer. According to reports, construction will be done in China. When completed, it will feature the same interior layout as the original that sank in 1912, as well as the same number of passengers (2,400) and crew (900).
This modern update will have the most up-to-date navigation technology, as well as far more lifeboats, (the original only had 20) The ship will reportedly cost $500 million to make — just $300 million more than it cost James Cameron to film his 1997 movie Titanic. Plans are being made to follow the route of the original liner carrying passengers from Southampton to New York. From there, Titanic 2 would sail round-the-world cruises. In THIS article from last month on bbc.com, Clive Palmer states:
"In 1912 the Titanic was the ship of dreams. For over a century Titanic's legend has been powered by mystery, intrigue and respect for all she stood for. Millions have dreamt of sailing on her, seeing her in port and experiencing her unique majesty. Titanic II will be the ship where those dreams come true."
What do you think? Is this just a cash grab (on a giant scale) in bad taste? Or will it pay the proper respects and memorialize the 1,500 passengers and crew that perished on the first Ship.
