Heavy Metal Knitting Championships Planned In Finland

Who knew? Who knew that the number of knitters rivaled the number of Heavy metal music fans? Who knew there were so many across both cultures that it necessitated a World Championship Event? Allow me to answer these burning questions.

On July 11th, the city of Joensuu, Finland will host the inaugural Heavy Metal World Knitting Championships. In this article Organizers of the event say:

"Finland is the promised land of heavy metal music. There are 50 heavy metal bands per 100,000 Finnish citizens, which is astonishingly many and actually more than anywhere else in the whole world. The number of needlework enthusiasts is equally high, as according to even the most modest estimates there are hundreds of thousands of people in Finland who are immersed various kinds of needlework crafts, knitting included."

If you're still reading this blog, by now you're wondering "How Do I Enter?" One local Finnish band has cornered the market on the festivities. To enter the competition, knitters must download the song "Fight Or Die" by thrash metal band Maniac Abductor, then upload a :60-second video clip of themselves knitting the song on YouTube. Well that sounds easy enough......Here's your homework assignment......
