"Chewbacca" Actor Peter Mayhew Passed Away

Beloved Actor Peter Mayhew, passed away at the age of 74 on Tuesday evening, (April 30th) at his Texas home. Best known for his work as "Chewbacca" in the original Star Wars 1977 through 2015's The Force Awakens.

The 7'3'' Mayhew was born in Surrey, England and was just a couple weeks shy of his 75 Birthday on May 19th. His first big break came in 1976 when he was cast as a Minotaur , due to his large feet, for the film Sinbad and The Eye Of The Tiger. Shortly after that, when Director George Lucas was casting SW Ep. IV: A New Hope, the statuesque actor was working as an orderly at the King's College Hospital in London. According to legend, all he had to do was stand up to get the gig as the now famous Wookie.

He would also appear in “The Empire Strikes Back,” “Return of the Jedi,” “Revenge of the Sith,” “The Force Awakens” and “The Star Wars Holiday Special.” (if you haven't seen this campy send-up, I posted video clips below) He was active on the “Star Wars” convention circuit as well and wrote two books, “Growing Up Giant” and “My Favorite Giant.”
