Aerosmith Get Animated For "The Simpsons" 11/21/91

Twenty-eight years ago tonight, Aerosmith made history by becoming the first band to appear on The Simpsons. "Flaming Moe's" was the tenth episode in the third season of the Fox T.V. Show. "Homer" spills the beans to his beloved bartender "Moe" about a secret cocktail he invented called the "Flaming Homer" which includes kids cough syrup as the mystery ingredient.

Moe steals the recipe, renames it after himself and his Tavern gets a big boost in patronage. Now that the bar is a hot spot, the members of Aerosmith drop by and are coaxed into performing only after the promise of free pickled eggs.. The band members recorded their voice-over parts here, in Boston and got to work with Actor Hank Azaria (the voice of "Moe"). At the time, front man Steven Tyler said of the show:

"We were elated because it's a you-know-you've-made-it-when moment. You're this lowlife rock-and-roll band ... a rock band that's throwing parties for twenty thousand people a night, and then you see yourself on television on the biggest cartoon of its time. It was the height of the insanity of the cartoon era, for me the equivalent of when we did "Walk This Way" with Run–D.M.C.during the beginning of that era ofrap. We always tried to get in on the ground floor of these things, and we were blown away that we were asked to do it."
