Hard to believe it's been five years since we lost the legendary singer/songwriter/guitarist Chris Cornell. He had struggled with depression for decades and eventually succumbed to his inner darkness. Following a Soundgarden show at the Fox Theater in Detroit, Cornell took his own life in his Hotel Room. He was discovered after a wellness check in the wee hours of May 18th, 2017 at the age of 52 . He was arguably on the best and most influential frontmen and musicians to come out of the '90's Grunge era. His legacy with Soundgarden, Audioslave and various solo and side projects continues to inspire millions of both, established and up and coming artists alike.

After diving down a rabbit hole, I discovered May 18th holds even more Cornell significance. It was on this date in 1996 Soundgarden were the musical guest on Saturday Night Live for their first and only appearance on the show. They played two tracks off Down on the Upside – “Pretty Noose” and “Burden In My Hand.” Below is a live clip from around that time frame.

R.I.P. Chris
